KITCHEN

Nasty, and no cabinets to speak of; 6" shelves.

Floor was those commercial VCT tiles you find in schools; but in really bad shape.

New floor is sheet vinyl. Cabinets were designed and made by me, pine boxes with poplar door frames on the glass ones for extra support.

The ceiling was a drop ceiling or suspended ceiling, depending on where you're from. I removed it to find chipped and falling plaster (old ceiling on next page). My friend from art school Dwight Hill helped me to hang the 4' by 8' drywall sections, an experience for both of us (as neither had done it before; love that deadman!) and then I worked on mudding them. Another experience!!!

This is above the stove. I think it speaks for itself.

This is facing out, the light at the top edge is where the florescent fixture you see next door was.

Nice wood paneling.who wouldn't want to live here?

The wood panels were glued to the door, so I painted over it. The greyish area is a backerboard, black with white specks that I picked out at home depot.

The track lighting was a "last minute" detail I added just before the cabinets, when I was at the sink I noticed there was no light; also the only light swich for the light is around and above the refrigerator, so you have to enter a dark room and feel for it. The new switch is above and to the left of the sink.

People who come in always think the floor is real hardwood or linoleum. This was a remanant for only $70!

During the process.

Before cabinets and track lights. The room now has a new white 'fridge and stove, but I can't take a picture because the new tenants are TOTAL slobs! It is so gross in there that it makes me want to cry when I see it! I guess that's the price of renting units.
